    About - Cathy Day

B.A., Certified Hatha Yoga instructor, CYA member
Reiki & Shiatsu Practitioner

Cathy Day graduated with a BA in Kinesiology and  Sociology of Health and Aging from the University of Western Ontario in 2006. She has been a practitioner of yoga for 6 years and has an extensive background in modern and contemporary dance. Throughout her undergraduate studies she was a member of the U.W.O Varsity Rowing Team, and was invited into the U.W.O dance company. After university, she traveled to India and Nepal in search of cultural and spiritual inspiration. This search lead her to a guru in the Himalayas who trained her as a Hatha Yoga instructor through an intensive one-on-one program. This experience deepened her love for yoga and her appreciation for its benefits in all aspects of one’s life. She hopes to share this truly enlightening experience with her clients, and give them a taste of  the ‘original’ yoga from the East. She is a certified instructor of Hatha Yoga, a Yoga Nidra specialist, as well as a member of the Canadian Yoga Alliance. She hopes to deepen her knowledge in yoga and enhance her spiritual awareness through continuing practice and instructing others.  Cathy is also a Certified Reiki Practitioner and plans on pursuing continued education in the field of Shiatsu therapy.

  1. Private Yoga

-When should you seek out private instruction?

    Ask yourself: Are you…

    • so busy, you cannot find time to attend a scheduled class at a gym or Yoga center?

    • easily distracted or do you feel competitive in a group class?

    • at a plateau in your Yoga practice, and feeling the need for individual attention to progress?

    • recovering from an injury or illness?

    • new to Yoga, and you need help to get started?

These are some of the instances where a private yoga session could be ideal for you. Give yourself the opportunity to challenge your mind and body, stretch, strengthen, engage spiritually and practice with guidance and encouragement from a Certified Instructor.

    What is Hatha Yoga?

Yoga is the science of right living, and is designed to affect all aspects of a person: their physical, vital, mental, emotional, psychic, and spiritual well-being. Hatha Yoga practice involves Asana (postures), Pranayama (breathing techniques), Mudra (gestures which represent the psyche), Bandha (locks for channeling energy), Shatkarmas (cleansing practices), and meditation. This type of yoga aims to bring the different bodily functions into perfect coordination so that they work for the good of the whole system.  Within the first few weeks of incorporating yoga into one’s life a profound change begins to take place; it is a greater awareness of the interrelatedness between emotional, mental, and physical health, and how a disturbance in any one of these affects the others. One starts to gain control over one’s health and well-being in a very empowering way. Yoga provides a means for finding one’s own way of connecting with the true self, an experience which cannot be understood intellectually and will only become living knowledge through practice and experience. The body is a temple through which this life is experienced; it is a blessing and we must take care of it.

  2. Holistic Bodywork

    What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by the practitioner laying their hands on the body and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through the practitioner’s hand to aid in strengthening one’s immune system and reducing stress.  If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results.

    What is Shiatsu?

Shiatsu is a therapeutic bodywork that developed from Japan, originating from Chinese medicine. Shiatsu is a total body massage applying gentle to firm, deep pressure with palms, thumbs, feet, and elbows with emphasis on present or underlying concerns. Specific points along the body's meridians (tsubos) are targeted in order to produce balance in one's Qi, or energy flow. When imbalances occur, illness, injury and psychological distress are likely.

Shiatsu may be effective in relieving neck and back pain, insomnia, stress, congestion, headaches, circulatory and respiratory problems, arthritis, overall tightness, and more.

    Cathy's Holistic Bodywork:

Cathy uses techniques from Ohashiatsu, which emphasizes communication and synergism between giver and receiver, as well as the true physical, psychological and spiritual harmony for both. Ohashiatsu also focuses on creating a bridge between Eastern and Western philosophies in the pursuit of healing and wellness.

Cathy incorporates a Thai-Yoga approach to Shiatsu Massage. A bodywork session with Cathy includes stretching of the muscles and meridians, applied pressure and massage using fingers, palms, feet, and elbows, as well as assisted yoga-like postures. The receiver may also be guided through restorative yoga poses with the aid of bolsters, blankets and blocks depending on his/her needs and conditions.

Bodywork is done on a cushioned floor mat or a massage table, fully clothed and without the use of oils or lotions.
